Wine Pairings Winter | Activities

Whenever Ed Hewitt III is out for a self-described “mini adventure” walk or ride, he tries to remember to bring along his camera. “Every day I see something that would be a great picture, a wonderful image—and of course, no camera,” he says. But all that changed in mid-March last year.

When you think of golf, rolling green hills and warm temperatures come to mind. Ice, snow and thick, winter jackets aren’t a part of that image. But that is exactly what the Wayzata Chilly Open consists of.

More than 260,000 American students study abroad each year at the college level. Most are enriched by their multicultural experiences and exposure to international diversity, but these trips are not without risks.

Between work, family and everything else, we all know that life gets just plain busy.

For 30 years, Interfaith Outreach & Community Partners (IOCP) has supported the needs of local families. And as of April, another six families will be sheltered and supported because of the community’s commitment to care for others.

Looking to quench the thirst of your favorite scotch connoisseur? It’s easy to give one you know he likes, but a limited edition of his favorite or a bottle with a fascinating back story really clinches your spot in his heart.

If you’re looking for ways to warm up this winter season, we have two:

Tom Rob Smith's debut novel, Child 44, remains to this day one of the best thrillers I have ever read. Exciting, adventuresome, at times disturbing and extraordinarily original, Child 44 is one of those rare debuts that seems impossible to top.

For some kids, starting their first day of immersion school can be intimidating, but Susanne Aspley has remedied that problem with her I Know How to book series.

Sports and school happen to be the two passions of Randall McDaniel’s life. McDaniel, a former offensive guard for the Vikings, used to dedicate his days to the field but now commits his time to the classroom.

Both Nikki Erickson and Nikki Swoboda became involved with theater at their respective high schools.

For the sweetheart who craves nothing but sweets this Valentine’s Day, Truffle Hill Chocolates has the perfect answer. The Excelsior chocolatier has provided us recommendations for some of their most delicious truffles for your loved one.

Minnetonka natives Chad Mayes, Jason Landstrom and Ryan Johnson love beer. They also love our lakes.

Hesitant about eating out alone? Get over it—I have. Of course, my job necessitates frequent solo dining, but I’ve come to love it. What’s more, I often prefer it. Obviously, dining out by yourself is very different from dining as a couple or in a group.

We asked local wine experts for the best pairings of the season and they responded with these suggestions to add an extra bit of savor to the palate of your party.

February is often only the midway point in a Minnesota winter. By now, bracing against frigid temperatures and scraping snow and ice from your frozen windshield may be wearing you down.
