When you think of golf, rolling green hills and warm temperatures come to mind. Ice, snow and thick, winter jackets aren’t a part of that image. But that is exactly what the Wayzata Chilly Open consists of.
In its 29th year, the event raises money for the Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce. It started out small but exploded as the popularity increased exponentially. Last year, 1,000 golfers headed out to the ice on Lake Minnetonka to get their golf on, eat chili and participate in activities.
Each year, a theme dictates attendee dress and (sometimes) décor for the hole sponsors. This year’s theme, Back to the ’80s, promises to be an event full of leg warmers and parachute pants, so grab a friend and play some golf in Minnesota winter the way Mother Nature intended.
