Artist Theaster Gates is taking over the Walker’s galleries for an immersive artistic experience. Originally trained in ceramics, Gates has expanded his practice to include performance, installation and archival conservation. He is best known for his 2009 project Dorchester Project in Chicago, which recycled a two-story property on the South Side, turning it into a performance space, library and archive. All ages. Project 2065 is a multimedia artistic installation sponsored by a National Endowment for the Arts grant.  Created by Joanna Hallstrom, a Minnesota artist, the project celebrates the growing diversity of Minnesota.  In 2065, the majority of Minnesotans will be people of color.  Those children are alive today.  In this project, their portraits are presented along with an audio soundtrack of them talking about their lives.
