Snow Much Fun

Wayzata Chilly Open
Wayzata’s favorite winter event returns.

The 37th annual Wayzata Chilly Open returns in full force this year on February 11 and 12 on frozen Wayzata Bay. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce.

The Chilly Open is known for its frozen golf tournament, which has three nine-hole courses. Hundreds of people flock to the bay to compete in the event with golf clubs, hockey sticks, baseball bats or whatever else they can find to help them make an elusive hole in one.

If you aren’t a fan of golf, there are plenty of other fun-filled and family-friendly activities to enjoy. Cinema & Skates features an ice-skating loop as well as a movie on the big screen. Snowga, or yoga out on the ice, is a great way to get active with family and friends. Local restaurants also compete in a chili cook-off, alongside live music entertainment.

How did this long-standing festival fun begin? Many years ago, a small group of business owners looked for a fun way to embrace winter. What started off as just one golf course and some chili and has grown immensely over the years.
