Our first salad was the first course in a pretty mediocre meal. Perhaps catering to our Midwestern sensibilities, for ages it seemed one couldn’t find a creative salad that departed from the ubiquitous dinner salad.

 

Its name means “man root,” because the potent man-shaped roots were thought to be a powerful aphrodisiac or at least a stimulant. This snake-oil tonic and early Viagra was American ginseng (panax quinquefolius) that grew wild across the Big Woods of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

 

This summer, Anything Goes will take the stage as the Minnetonka Theatre performs this age-old Broadway favorite.

 

It’s only natural to want the best for the little ones in our lives. Thankfully, more children’s products are being produced with our kids in mind, from clothing made of organic fibers to toys crafted from recycled materials.

 

The wind has always whistled across Warren Krohn’s 700-acre family farm in Nicollet County. Recently the farmer decided to do something about it. Six windmills now stand 160 feet tall on or near his family’s land. When the turbines spin, the wind becomes what Krohn sees as a new cash crop.

Help restore the more than 800 acres of prairie in Three Rivers Park District by collecting native wildflower seed. Volunteers are needed to gather hundreds of pounds of seed for future restoration and enhancement projects.
