Quarantine Queer-and-Zine

with Sarah Evenson
Thursdays: October 8, 15, 22; 7-8:30pm CDT

Engage with the zine as a historically queer art form while connecting with a new community in this virtual workshop designed for DIY makers of all skill levels. We will cover single-sheet zines with and without a cover, making a zine with or without a prompt, and how zines are positioned within the context of both book arts and queer history. Be prepared for a community-based approach with lots of sharing! Anyone excited to explore this low-tech art form and the creative process through an explicitly LGBTQIA+ lens is welcome!

Certificate: 4.5 hours, Category C or D

$81/participant (10% discount for MCBA members)
$41 for BIPOC participants* (10% discount for MCBA members)
*We are offering a reduced rate to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) participants to honor equity and increase access and artistic opportunities for those who have historically been underrepresented in the book arts. For individuals to whom this does not apply, register at the rate listed first and, if you are able, consider making a donation when registering to support MCBA’s efforts to make reduced rates available.

What you’ll need to participate: For this highly participatory virtual workshop we recommend you join on a laptop or desktop computer with a camera and microphone, if possible. You will receive step-by-step instructions for downloading Zoom (it’s free!) and accessing the workshop online approximately 2 days before the workshop’s start date. You are responsible for sourcing your own supplies from the materials list. Teaching artists will answer questions about the materials list in advance of the workshop.

Please note: Registration closes 10/1 at midnight.
