'A Kids Play About Racism'

Children's Theatre Company, in collaboration with 37 other theatres nationwide, will present the virtual premiere of "A Kids Play About Racism" on Aug. 1. 

The play, an adaptation of Jelani Memory's "A Kids Book About Racism," will premiere on the streaming platform Broadway on Demand.

"This show embraces the full spectrum of emotional response children may have as they navigate comprehending racism and how it may affect them," lead artist Khalia Davis says in a release. Read more about 'A Kids Play About Racism'

Pottery and Paintings Fundraiser

Five local artists are donating pottery and paintings to raise funds for WeLoveLakeStreet and Minnetonnka Center for the Arts. The pandemic and social unrest leave these two places we love in need of funding. ALL funds from this sale will to to these two non-profits. This is an outdoor event. Masks and social distancing, please.

LIVE DEMO: Indo-Islamic Papermaking

Learn about Indo-Islamic papermaking and its role in the history of papermaking.

We will cover the papermaking process, and surface finishing techniques like dyeing, sizing, and burnishing on traditionally-made papers. Detailed handouts will be emailed to everyone about the process, the history as well as supplies and materials should you wish to pursue this style of papermaking at home; along with readings ro further your knowledge of the craft. LIVE DEMO: Pulp Painting

Kelly Taylor Mitchell (b. 1994) is an artist and educator who lives and works in Atlanta, GA where she is currently an Artist-in-Residence with the Studio Artist Program at The Atlanta Contemporary. Kelly is an Assistant Professor of Art and Visual Culture and the Art Program Director at Spelman College. Kelly’s multidisciplinary practice centers oral history and ancestral memory woven into the fabric of the Africana Diaspora, in order to present speculative futures, specifically related to concepts of community autonomy, swamp marronage, and inherited identity. Join MCBA’s Studio Technician Molly Poganski for a brief introduction to letterpress printing with hand-set wood type!
