In case you haven't noticed, we have a shiny new website! It's something we've been working on for a while, something that materialized because we want to make it as easy as possible for you to get the information and stories you want.
The facelift is more than just visual. Yes, we added some white space and lightened the color scheme a bit, but we've also reorganized the content. We wanted to make it easier to navigate but don't worry! All your favorites are still around and you can still find each issue's content on the site.

Anyone who lives in the lake area knows what a local treasure the Cottagewood General Store is. Quaint, charming, inviting—the neighborhood store really nails the homey feeling of community. Experience that homey feeling while getting a taste of Europe this weekend. The General Store brings authentic German cuisine, festival music and Bavarian games to Minnesota with its annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 28 from 5:30—9:30 p.m. In the Cottagewood Biergarten, taste the concoctions from local brewery Excelsior Brewing (or a pint of 1919 Root Beer for the little ones).

Sick of hearing about dogs yet? Well, apparently the lake community is on the same page as I am because this fall has been all about the events for the pooches. This weekend is no different: Two great lake-area businesses are partnering to raise funds for the Top Dog Foundation, a local organization that rescues and finds homes for older dogs who seem un-adoptable because of age or health. On Saturday, Sept. 21, Excelsior Brewing Company and Top Dog Country Club come together to bring you a beer and fun-filled “Yappy Hour” with their Howlin’ for Growlers event.

If you know me, you know I’m an animal-lover, and you know I’m partial to dogs. The mere site of a puppy will distract me from the most serious conversation. A heart-to-heart catch-up walk around the lake with me is really more like a one-sided conversation, as refrains of “Ooh, look at his little tail!” and “She’s soooo cute and fluffy!” spill from my mouth. And, while I’m not a dog mama myself (yet), I still keep my ears open for any and all lake-area events that center on pooches.

As we put away our white pants and grab our lined notebooks and number 2 pencils, it’s easy to think that the fun of summer is all in the past. Thankfully, the City of Wayzata begs to differ. This weekend, September 6, 7 and 8, the Wayzata Chamber and Presbyterian Homes present the 39th-annual James J. Hill Days. The festival brings together the lake communities to celebrate the city, have some great food and experience some fun activities together. The festival this year brings more excitement than usual.
