The Whiffenpoofs Visit Excelsior

Yale’s a cappella singing group makes a stop in the lake area for a tree lighting.

Excelsior’s holiday tree lighting ceremony Saturday, December 1, at 5:15 p.m., has just been raised a few octaves.

The Yale University Whiffenpoofs, a 14-member singing group, will perform live at the public tree lighting held outside the TCF Bank at Water and Oak streets. Admired for their outstanding harmonies, the Whiffenpoofs, the oldest college a cappella group, is currently on tour throughout the country and will perform later that evening at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church at 301 County Road 19 at 8 p.m.

The Whiffenpoofs were invited by the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber to add music to this town-treasured tradition. One of their members, Max "Popocatepetl" Henke, is a recent Minnetonka High School graduate.

Tickets for the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church concert are $15 for adults and $5 for students/children, and can be purchased at whiffenpoofs.ticketbud.com.
