My husband travels a lot for his job. Which means he gets to (read: has to) eat a lot of unfamiliar foods. This might sound glamorous, but when we’re talking 300 days a year it's simply tiresome. Not to mention gastrically taxing.

The Upper Minnetonka Sailing School and Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club are holding their annual open house Friday, May 31, from 4-8 p.m. at The Yacht Club in Spring Park on Lake Minnetonka.
The general public is invited to enjoy free sailboat rides with the school’s instructors at the helm. The Upper Minnetonka Sailing School will offer rides on its 23-foot teaching boat, Sailing School,along with several other 16-23’ sailboats.

As the official “caller” of ice out on Lake Minnetonka since 1968, the Freshwater Society will herald the return of spring--and our state bird--Thursday, April 11, from 6-9 p.m., at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka Beach.
This year's event will feature a live auction and a presentation about Freshwater Society’s water protection programs. Additionally, the first-ever Clean Water Champion Award will be presented in recognition of leadership in community clean-ups for water quality. Paul Huttner, MPR meteorologist and author of MPR’s Updraft blog, will emcee the event.

With 135 teachers from all over Minnesota vying for the prized title of Teacher of the Year, it’s impressive just to be nominated for the crown. But that’s exactly what happened to a Minnetonka teacher this month. Second grade Spanish teacher Niki Danou, who verses her students in Español at Groveland Elementary, was one of the nominees.

Excelsior’s holiday tree lighting ceremony Saturday, December 1, at 5:15 p.m., has just been raised a few octaves.
The Yale University Whiffenpoofs, a 14-member singing group, will perform live at the public tree lighting held outside the TCF Bank at Water and Oak streets. Admired for their outstanding harmonies, the Whiffenpoofs, the oldest college a cappella group, is currently on tour throughout the country and will perform later that evening at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church at 301 County Road 19 at 8 p.m.

This January, don’t miss our Arts department on the recent grad who’s been blowing up the local music scene.
