Sailing School and Yacht Club Hold Open House

Stop by the Yacht Club in Spring Park May 31 to tour the facilities and get a free sailboat ride.

The Upper Minnetonka Sailing School and Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club are holding their annual open house Friday, May 31, from 4-8 p.m. at The Yacht Club in Spring Park on Lake Minnetonka.

The general public is invited to enjoy free sailboat rides with the school’s instructors at the helm. The Upper Minnetonka Sailing School will offer rides on its 23-foot teaching boat, Sailing School, along with several other 16-23’ sailboats.

Captain Joan Gilmore, instructor evaluator for American Sailing Association (ASA) and lead instructor for the school says the school offers beginning to advanced courses, including the popular 12-hour ASA-101 Basic Keelboat and 16-hour ASA-103 Basic Cruising to a Racing Techniques course taught by a nationally ranked racer and ASA sailing instructor.

Discover Sailing is a 2-hour on-water sampler class that is offered throughout May and June. This course lets neophytes sample sailing without making a commitment to a longer class.

The open house includes knot-tying demonstrations and a chance to meet racers and instructors from the Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club and Upper Minnetonka Sailing School. Sailboat rides are free on a first-come, first-registered basis. You may pre-register for a ride by calling 612.871.8101.

The event will be held at The Yacht Club, 4165 Shoreline Dr., Spring Park.
