Last fall, Westonka Public Schools opened its newest gem: the Westonka Performing Arts Center, which will provide a home for arts performances of all kinds—often featuring music and theater ensembles from Mound Westonka High School and other district schools.
The district broke ground on the performing arts center (and its sister building, the Westonka Activity Center) in May 2017. It features a 611-seat theater with an orchestra pit, a beautiful lobby with gallery space, full-sized scene and costume shops, and storage for an on-stage band shell. Community members can get involved by attending a performance, becoming a member of the Westonka Friends of the Arts, or participating in the annual giving initiative to help raise ongoing funds for the center.
This month, you can catch Mound Westonka High School’s spring play, The Matchmaker, on March 8-10, and the high school’s concert choir and wind ensembles in their Bon Voyage Concert (on March 14). Next month, there’s a kids’ operetta, 101 Dalmations, Grandview Middle School’s production of Mary Poppins, Jr., and Hilltop Primary School’s second- and fourth-grade concerts.
