Passing the Puck through Russia

A Minnetonka hockey player takes the trip of a lifetime.

There’s a world traveler in our midst. Minnetonka’s own Laura Bowman, along with 19 other American players and two coaches, took a hockey trip to Moscow last fall.

Overseas, she was able to attend a game and practice with both the Red Army and Dynamo Russian professional hockey teams. Bowman also met Pavel Datsyuk, a professional Russian player and alternate captain of the Detroit Red Wings.

Bowman started playing at age 7. After being coached by her dad on Minnetonka youth hockey teams, she spent the last four years as a forward for the Minnetonka High School Skippers’ girls varsity team.

She’s confident hockey is and will remain a huge part of who she is going forward. “I’ll keep hockey in my life for as long as possible, whether it be playing or coaching,” she says. Bowman’s plans include playing for the Penn State women’s ice hockey team.
