Great ideas are not always paired with epic moments. Take, for example, lake-area residents John Klick, Patrick Foss and Jon Lewin’s decision to start Excelsior Brewing Company. Klick originally dreamt the idea, then pitched it to Foss and Lewin while the men cheered on their sons at a little league game. Turns out it was a grand slam.
Since the brewery just recently opened, the trio is currently offering two brews: XLCR, an American pale ale Klick describes as a bitter, hoppy brew, and Big Island Blonde, a lighter, crisper, blonde ale that’s less bitter. Plans call for special Oktoberfest and holiday brews to be available seasonally.
Growlers (64 oz. jugs), trucker hats and other merchandise are available for purchase. Free brewery tours are available as well; just bring in canned goods, which will be donated to the ICA Food Shelf. Another reason to love this brewery? Part of its profits are donated to lake conservation efforts.
