A Pop of Color

Matt Chapman brings attention to architecture in his photo “Christmas Barn.”
This photo, a submission for the 2014 Lens on Lake Minnetonka contest, was a favorite among editors and readers.

Matt Chapman, who captured this image of the aptly named “Christmas Barn,” says, “One of the things I love about my house is that I’m walking distance from downtown Excelsior, yet I have this country, rural feel looking out across my backyard. The old barn and horse stable look great in the morning light, especially during the winter months. I was drinking my coffee one morning and decided to grab my camera for a few shots from my deck.”

Using editing software, Chapman was able to highlight the red of the barn, leaving the rest of the photo in black and white.

Despite his abilities with the camera and the computer, Chapman says he is no professional. “While I think I have a good eye for a photo, I still have a lot to learn about photography,” he says. Chapman loves to take landscape photos, especially while on vacation. However, he says his absolute favorite subjects are his two children, Claire, 8, and Grady, 6. When not snapping photos, Chapman, who manages an operations team for CEB, says he enjoys boating, vacationing, golfing, reading and cooking.
