Celebrate the Olympics with Wayzata's Chilly Open

Grab your golf clubs and head to the lake for the 30th anniversary of this frozen favorite.

Since 1984, Minnesotans have made their way to Lake Minnetonka for the unique frozen golf event, the Chilly Open to celebrate the winter season. This year’s theme is the Olympics, so dress up like your favorite athlete and grab your friends and family to enjoy all the food, fun and frozen festivities on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Chilly Open's team of volunteers carved out three, nine-hole golf courses on the ice so that more than 1,000 golfers from around the Twin Cities can attend with their golf clubs, hockey sticks or tee ball bats to putt with tennis balls all around Wayzata Bay. This frozen favorite is an annual fundraising event for the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce and community events.

To keep the golfers warm during this “chilly” event, all-you-can-eat chili will be available at the Chili Cook Off. More than 13 local restaurants will compete for the best chili recipe at the 19th Hole Hospitality Tent. Golfers can also enjoy live music by a Midwest-favorite, and former The Voice contestant, Tim Mahoney.
