Enercise Gym, the lake area’s first gym for kids, is dedicated to creating an empowering environment for others to learn about health. To engage everyone in the discussion, this past winter Enercise crafted some healthy competition.
During January and February, the gym turned its treadwall into “Mount Enercise” in hopes of having patrons climb more than 60,000 feet by February 14—and to raise funds for a good cause.
Tony and Judi Shink, owners of Enercise, wanted their young members to experience the joy of striving toward a shared goal as a team. The overall aim was to raise money for Camp Odayin, a Stillwater-based camp for children who suffer from heart disease. Because the Shinks’ son, Jack, was born with heart disease, this cause is very close to them.
More than 100 participants, ages 3 to 14, took turns contributing, with the youngest climber making it five feet and the oldest scaling more than 800 feet. The Shinks say it was truly amazing to watch the children encourage one another as they conquered their goals.
