We’ve all had those moments during the long frigid winter where we closed our eyes and pictured a balmy evening spent listening to strands of live music melt into the warm summer breeze. It helped us survive the cold (and yes, despite our moments of doubt, we did), and now the fun is finally beginning.
Get excited for a fun night, because the Gear Daddies are collaborating with Gary Louris and Karen Grotberg of The Jayhawks on June 6 at the Hilde Performance Center. This outdoor rock and roll concert has the makings for a perfectly memorable nigh you won’t want to miss.
Originally hailing from Austin, Minnesota, Gear Daddies is an Americana rock band that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles. The band released three popular albums between 1986 and 1992, and have become an influential part of the Twin Cities music scene. They achieved notable mainstream success as well, playing their original song "Stupid Boy" on Late Night with David Letterman in 1991. Lead singer and songwriter Martin Zellar, noted for his passionate and skilled writing and unforgettable melodies.
Gary Louris is a founding member of one of this generation’s most creative bands, The Jayhawks. He has written for luminaries like Dixie Chicks, and has a critically-acclaimed solo record produced by Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes. He will be joined by Jayhawks keyboardist, Karen Grotberg, who joined The Jayhawks line-up in 1992. After a break from the music industry, Grotberg is back and better than ever, rejoining the band for their recent reunion as well as the 2011 record Mockingbird Time.
