Second-annual Sizzle for a Cause Local Chef Competition in Excelsior Benefits the ICA Food Shelf

Step out this Thursday, Feb. 20 for a spicy competition that rivals the Food Network's Top Chef.

Join community members and local celebs this Thursday, Feb. 20, for Sizzle for a Cause, a local chef competition to have fun and raise funds for ICA Food Shelf. A the second-annual event, five local restaurant chefs and one amateur will compete for the title and the coveted Golden Cleaver Award.

In an “Iron Chef” style cooking competition, chefs will be given a variety of basic cooking ingredients, and a main-dish mystery item (revealed at the last minute), and have 30 minutes to wow a panel of celebrity judges. Lakewinds Food Co-op is providing the main mystery ingredient which the chefs will feature as the centerpiece of their entrée. Chefs will be judged on creativity, presentation and taste.

Competing this year are chefs from returning champion Joey Nova’s Tonka Bay, Gianni’s of Wayzata, Jake O’Connor’s of Excelsior, Spasso of Minnetonka, Bayview Event Center of Excelsior, and an amateur chef from Loaves and Fishes.

Celebrity judges will be Meteorologist Paul Douglas, Mrs. Minnesota America Tara Mulkey, WCCO and FSN Host Mike Woodley, Fox 9 Lifestyle Expert Ross Sveback and MyTalk 107.1 Radio Host Natalie Hagemo.

Still not sure it's up your alley? Drink this: Excelsior Brewery will host a beer tasting and Team Liquor of Shorewood will host a wine tasting during the evening. Apps from each of the participating restaurants, plus a cash bar at Bayview make this a full-service event. Plus, all proceeds from the event will go to ICA Food Shelf in Minnetonka, providing assistance to our neighbors in need.
