Mindful Leadership at The Marsh

Janice Marturano, founder of the Institute for Mindful Leadership
Former General Mills vice president Janice Marturano brings her expertise to the lake-area.

With Spring trying desperately to, well, spring, many of us are starting to feel ansty. A spring cleaning is in order: taking stock of our habits, our tendencies and our routines and deciding if they're still right for us. What can help? A little push from a lake-area wellness center and a former General Mills vice president.

On Friday, March 21, The Marsh, A Center for Balance and Fitness in Minnetonka, welcomes Janice Marturano for a talk on becoming effective leaders in our communities, families, and at work based on her new book Finding the Space to Lead: A Practical Guide to Mindful Leadership. She follows the Friday talk with a three-hour interactive workshop on the principles of Mindful Leadership on Saturday, March 22 at The Marsh.

Finding the Space to Lead  is a guide on how to cultivate leadership skills by integrating the practice of mindfulness, meditation and self-awareness with effective management techniques. This guide presents the facets of Mindful Leadership—clarity, focus, creativity and compassion—and offers exercises on how to address real world situations. Marturano’s Mindful Leadership training demonstrates how to effectively lead a company, a team, nonprofit, neighborhood effort, or family, helping with everything from calendars, meetings, and to-do lists to strategic planning and the interpersonal challenges of the workplace.

Marturano founded the Institute for Mindful Leadership in 2011 after 15 years with General Mills as vice president and deputy general counsel. She initiated the company’s program in Mindful Leadership. Marturano also co-developed the very first Mindful Leadership curriculum as director of leadership education at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness. She has brought the intensive training of Mindful Leadership to all forms of organizations – corporate, nonprofit, academic and government. Internationally renowned on Mindful Leadership, Marturano spoke at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland last year and runs Mindful Leadership workshops nationally. She has been profiled in Forbes, the Financial Times, the New York Times, and elsewhere.
