In our beautiful lake area, one of the things I've loved learning about most is how to give back to the community we cherish—and sometimes that expands to natural beauty outside of our everyday routes. That's why I invite you to join the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District's eighth-annual Minnehaha Creek Cleanup on June 29, 2014. This year's event has outgrown its old boundaries and is expanding creek-wide to collect even more trash!
While it will remain headquartered at Lake Hiawatha Park in Minneapolis, the event will also offer satellite locations in St. Louis Park and Cedar Lake. They're upping the ante this year, aiming to collect a whopping three tons of trash from around Minnehaha Creek and Minneapolis lakes! The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is once again sponsoring the cleanup with the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company’s “Canoes for a Cause” campaign in partnership with Metro Blooms.
“The volunteer support for keeping Minnehaha Creek and surrounding lakes clean has been so successful the past seven years, that we have to broaden our scope to find even more trash,” says Sherry White, president of the MCWD Board of Managers. “We are continually amazed by the passion of our residents, and hope to make an even bigger impact this year.”
Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, water bottle, trash bags and gloves. Following the cleanup, Leinenkugel’s will provide a free BBQ lunch at Lake Hiawatha Park and, for those 21 or older with a valid ID, free Leinenkugel’s beer (limit of two per person). There will be prizes for kids and adults, music and fun!
