Winter Wonderland

Leitner’s Garden Center helps customers create festive winterscapes.

Minnesota becomes a sea of white during the winter months, so Leitner’s Garden Center offers a festive way to add some color to your yard with custom winterscapes.

The Garden Center’s greenhouse is set up as a marketplace where customers can choose among 20 types of greens and 15 types of berries and twigs to fill their pots. Leitner’s staff designs custom papier mâché pots that are the perfect way to liven up the front porch and window boxes.

Leitner’s general manager Joan Westby adds that winterscapes are great for holiday parties. “It is so welcoming to have something beautiful outside during the winter,” she says.

Many of Leitner’s greens, berries and twigs are locally grown. The only catch: Winterscapes need to be made before the ground freezes over, so prepare your pots before mid-November. Although the winterscape season starts early, these pots are able to stay fresh until February or March with very little maintenance. Leitner’s also sells wreaths, Christmas trees and lights, firewood and garlands.
