Winter Fitness Tips

Tips from local fitness enthusiast Susan Wilson.

Just because snow has blanketed the roads and the temperature hovers around a brisk 20 degrees doesn’t mean you should be trapped inside. Local fitness enthusiast Susan Wilson says winter is the perfect time to be creative when it comes to workouts, and suggests mixing up indoor and outdoor workouts, especially on dreary days.

To stay motivated, Wilson suggests making it a social event by inviting friends. “If you have an appointment, you have to show up,” she imparts. Another tip is to tell yourself you have time for exercise. Wilson knows that “if I say I don’t have time, I won’t have time.”

To stay warm, Wilson suggests purchasing active wear made of wool. “Wool wicks away moisture and keeps you cool,” she says. But when the brutal arctic winds kick in, the wool won’t be enough, so add a layer of nylon athletic wear over your wool on windy days. –Katie Rucke
