In 2004, farmland in Independence was transformed into Windsong Farm Golf Club, a unique members-only prairie course. However, just four years later, the club was in financial trouble. Anticipated member quotas hadn’t been met and the loan was too large.
In mid-January, Dave Meyer, former lake-area resident and Titan Machinery CEO, purchased the club. Though Meyer currently lives in Fargo, his family owns Meyer Brothers Dairy in Maple Plain as well as Pioneer Creek, a public golf facility across from Windsong.
Windsong general manager Jim Kidd says he doesn’t know what would have happened if Meyer hadn’t step in, but believes the club will succeed.
