Asked what’s new and exciting in the world of wedding invitations, Alexis Harsh of Wayzata’s Watermark Stationery was frank: “Oh my goodness! What isn’t new?”
The wedding world is one of tradition, but brides and grooms of today have decided to break free. Of course, traditional wedding invitations are beautiful—picture a cream-colored invitation with rounded edges, covered in looping black and gold text—but the new trends are striking.
That classic cream? No more. The most modern wedding invitations are saturated with color. And texture, often forgotten, is now a major factor. Of course, the marriage of tradition and novelty is one of the bridal world’s specialties. For a happy medium, Harsh recommends edge painting, in which the invitation is a more traditional white or cream, but edges are painted in colors of the party’s choosing.
And custom invites won’t ruin your budget. “A lot of brides feel working with a designer is going to break the bank—and it won’t!” says Harsh.
