Chef JP Samuelson, formerly of Figlio, and Randy Stanley, former general manager of Manny’s, recently opened a restaurant with a sought-after Lake Minnetonka view. 6 Smith, their joint venture, is a unique place with a rockin’ view—right in downtown Wayzata.
With inspiration from urban restaurants like Santa Monica’s Tar & Roses, Stanley and Samuelson wanted to tell a story “for the urban suburban.” The restaurant is in an old boat factory, with high ceilings and big windows that give it a unique, industrial feel.
Using all prime beef, heritage breads, local farmers and responsible vendors, 6 Smith’s menu also strives for excellence. Samuelson understands the importance of small plates and shared appetizers, giving the restaurant a mom-and-pop feel with local, sustainable products. They’ll also host 16 local, artisan beers on tap and a DJ on the weekends.
Now, what about that name? 6 Smith is a street address in London, but don’t worry if it doesn’t ring a bell. Samuleson and Stanley are looking forward to defining the slightly obscure name with their brand of polished fare.
