Tekne Award Winners

Four area companies and executives recently took home awards for excellence in medical technology.

The Minnesota High Tech Association recognized outstanding innovators and developers last November during the 11th annual Tekne Awards. The following winners all hail from Minnetonka:

Vital Images Inc. won in the IT Software and Hardware, Communications and Infrastructure category. Its Vitrea software creates images from complex data, and is used by physicians and healthcare specialists at more than 4,000 hospitals and imaging centers to analyze diagnostic imaging equipment information.

CoreSpine Technologies LLC won in the Life Sciences category as the Small and Growing Company recipient. The company created electromechanical instruments for spinal surgery, including soft tissue and cartilage removal, which minimizes patient pain, which saves on overall procedure costs, as patients require less medication after surgery.

American Medical Systems (AMS) won the Life Sciences category as an Established Company. AMS saves time and money for men and women with pelvic health issues with their latest laser technology, which enhances treatment efficiency and gives patients an alternative to surgery.

Gene Lytwyn, CEO of WynEdge Software, was named Technology Executive of the Year for providing hundreds of Minnesota companies with the know-how to use technology more effectively. (Example: WynEdge Software helped 3M with a testing system that helped labs across the nation deal with increasing demand for effective H1N1 vaccines.)
