A Taste of Summer

Twin Orchards Nursery helps summer come early with indoor plants

As winter slowly gives way to spring, many Minnesotans find themselves ready for a bit of green. Even if the weather isn’t cooperative, indoor plants provide that hopeful taste of summer. Jerod Fehrenbach of Twin Orchards Nursery recommends keeping evergreen herbs such as rosemary and lavender near your kitchen to add a little life to your cooking and your home.

For the more adventurous, he proposes spider plants and cacti. Though they lack the functional appeal of herbs perched on a windowsill, they’re a lovely touch that requires minimal maintenance. Having trouble keeping plants alive? “The biggest two mistakes that people make,” says Fehrenbach, “are over-watering their plants, and watering with softened water.”
