A Tale of the Human Condition

The Narrow Road to the Deep North By Richard Flanagan

The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan is the much-deserved winner of the 2014 Man Booker Prize and a beautiful tapestry of the human condition. Flanagan takes his title from the legendary Japanese poet, Basho, and tells the tale of those poor souls confined to the unfortunate and terrible experience of Japanese POW camps during the construction of the Thai-Burma Death Railway during World War II. It took the author more than a decade to write this book, and the patience and exactitude of its creation is evident in every word and twist of plot.
