Need a way to shake off those early-spring blahs? Minnesota’s first indoor skydiving facility opened in Minnetonka in December—and it’s a thrilling, unique way to beat some stress or just have fun. The business, iFly Indoor Skydiving, chose Ridgedale Center for its newest location based partly on our reputation for staying active. “Minnesotans are famous for their…love of sport and adventure,” said regional director Dave Janossy in a press release. “But you don’t need to be an adventure junkie to fly at all. Anyone from ages 3 to 103 can do it.”
iFly offers individual or group flying sessions, plus special events like corporate gatherings or birthday parties. They’ll customize the party for you, with flight enhancements, a great party space, and even catering options if you don’t feel like schlepping the goodies with you.
Kids (ages 4-16) can also sign up for iFly’s Flight School program, which features coaching in a small group setting, as participants learn the progression of flying skills. Each session is taught by an International Bodyflight Association-certified instructor.
So how does it work? There’s a vertical wind tunnel—a “transparent, brightly lit and safely enclosed flying environment.” When you visit, you’ll gather for training and then receive your flight suit, goggles and helmet. You’ll fly with a qualified instructor, too. And you don’t have to jump. Participants “simply lean into the wind tunnel and experience a sensation like floating on a cushion of air,” says Janossy.
