Same Place, New Space

Gear West moves down the street, offering more products and more square feet.

The largest specialty cross-country ski store in the United States has just gotten bigger. After moving down the street from its original Long Lake location, Gear West Cross Country Ski & Run has expanded to add Gear West Alpine/Adrenaline, providing customers with alpine and team sports goods. The expansion has created a specialty campus of more than 20,000 square feet. “Our goal was to create a large space where the whole family could go, each for their own reason,” says Jan Guenther, founder and owner.

Gear West Alpine/Adrenaline, which opened in June, sells casual clothing and longboards, in addition to a selection of soccer, lacrosse and alpine gear. Guenther says she doesn’t know of another specialty sporting goods campus like this. “We’re offering a wide variety of products and services, all with a small-business feel and a sense of personal attention.”
