Excelsior Running brings a boutique feel to a great sport.

Starting a running shop was something Derek Lindstrom always wanted to do. As a long-time running coach and an avid runner, opening Excelsior Running was a natural next step. “This is the place to be,” says Lindstrom, of Excelsior. “It’s very vibrant, active, and it seems like every month there’s a good-sized race.” With the Twin Cities Marathon coming up in October, Lindstrom’s summer is filled with runners training —and that’s where Excelsior Running comes in.

“It’s a shopping experience,” says Lindstrom. “Our store is a boutique running shop, so we take a lot of fashion into what we do. We buy color, and think about how it’ll fit into our demographic.”

This month, with marathoners ramping up their miles, Lindstrom expects to see male runners going for white singlets, and women in a shorts and sports bra combination. Runners generally have a preferred brand, so head over to Excelsior Running to find out what’s right for you.
