Ridgedale Renovations

The mall gets a facelift and adds new tenants.

Minnetonka shopping mall Ridgedale Center’s current renovation and expansion (with five phases, a $100 million-plus renovation plan and a 50,000-square-foot retail expansion) started in 2014 and should be completed by 2017. Since its grand opening in 1974, the mall had only been renovated once before, in 2007.

One of the hot new attractions is the addition of department-store giant Nordstrom, along with several smaller retail shops and boutiques. Karen Alley, marketing manager for Ridgedale Center, hopes that the added space coupled with Nordstrom as an anchor will not only attract shoppers, but that other boutiques will be itching to get mall space as well. “One thing that sets us apart from other centers is that we now have retailers [whose] only other location is at the Mall of America,” Alley explains. She adds that Ridgedale has grown its partnership with the Minnetonka Center for the Arts by expanding the mall’s art vitrines, where work from local artists is displayed. “It’s more of a museum atmosphere,” Alley explains. “The overall experience is to take in culture and enjoy the art that’s here.”
