Bird Dog Studios is a fashion accessory company based in Lynda Larson’s home in Minnetonka that’s drawing attention for its unique bowties. After several years as a floral designer, Larson became interested in fashion design after redesigning a bowtie she picked up at the mall after Christmas in 2015.
“A friend told me about the annual Maiden Minnesota sale, where homemade crafts and goodies are sold, so I immediately applied,” she says. Larson was invited to sell her bowties at the Maiden Minnesota sale in November of 2016, and was asked by Jora Bart of the Xcel Energy Center to design a custom choker for Stevie Nicks when she was in town for a concert in St. Paul.
The excitement didn’t end there. Larson will design a custom bowtie for Bruno Mars to wear during his concert in August at the Xcel Energy Center.
But these bowties aren’t just for the rich and famous. Currently, you can find them at Isles Studio in Uptown, Inspire/The Smile Foundation and at Luya in Zumbrota. And this spring, Larson will be adding two new lines to her bowtie collection. The Kentucky Derby line will feature fun colors and patterns with matching lapel pins to commemorate the Kentucky Derby. The Bird Dog Boys collection will offer miniature bowties for youngsters and special father/son sets of matching bowties.
“It brings me back to the days when my mom would make herself and we three girls matching dresses for Easter. I loved that tradition and want to carry it on with my bowties,” says Larson.
