With 135 teachers from all over Minnesota vying for the prized title of Teacher of the Year, it’s impressive just to be nominated for the crown. But that’s exactly what happened to a Minnetonka teacher this month. Second grade Spanish teacher Niki Danou, who verses her students in Español at Groveland Elementary, was one of the nominees.
Competition will be stiff for Danou as other candidates include pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade teachers from public or private schools.
According to educationminnesota.org, “The 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced Sunday, May 5, at the Marriott Minneapolis Northwest in Brooklyn Park, Minn.,” meaning Danou will have to keep her fingers crossed for a few more weeks.
