If you know me, you know I’m an animal-lover, and you know I’m partial to dogs. The mere site of a puppy will distract me from the most serious conversation. A heart-to-heart catch-up walk around the lake with me is really more like a one-sided conversation, as refrains of “Ooh, look at his little tail!” and “She’s soooo cute and fluffy!” spill from my mouth. And, while I’m not a dog mama myself (yet), I still keep my ears open for any and all lake-area events that center on pooches. That’s how I heard about Minnetonka Orchards’ Dog Days of Autumn event, happening this weekend, September 14 and 15. You and your leashed companion can enjoy treats, hayrides and community water bowls (well, that last one is more for the dogs). You’ll even get a free doggie poop bag. What’s even more exciting? Both Saturday and Sunday will feature a Doggie Costume Contest (come on—WHAT is cuter than a dressed-up furry friend?!). Dress up your best friend and hang around for awards and prizes at 2 p.m. each day. For more info, check out the Orchards' website. It all sounds so exciting that I may steal some oblivious pet-owner’s pooch for the weekend so I can join in on the fun.
