After auditioning for Minnetonka High School’s performance of Rehearsal of Murder during his sophomore year in high school, you could say Matthew Trumbull was bitten by the acting bug. Since his debut at MHS, Trumbull has gone on to perform for various off-off-Broadway companies, small independent films and web series. Trumbull eventually made his way back to his home state in August to perform his own solo show at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, which is based on his experience dealing with his father’s death from cancer. He also performs the show in New York. “I’ve always wanted to perform [the solo show] in Minnesota because that’s where the heart of the piece is, and there is so much Minnesotan culture throughout the piece,” he says. Referring to himself as a “theater creature,” Trumbull hopes to continue coming back to perform in Minnesota and dreams of performing at the Guthrie someday. Asked if he would like to perform on Broadway someday, he says, “I wouldn’t turn it down.”
