For Medina’s Joe and Kathy Reis, who were recently honored with the Hammer Community Partner Award, volunteering and community service are a way of life. “We don’t do it for the award; it’s the way we were raised,” says Joe. The Reis family moved to Medina in 1990 and learned about Hammer Residences when they started attending Holy Name Church. Joe began driving residents to church services and has continued for 23 years. “It’s a wonderful organization. The mission is about helping those we serve live life to fullest and the focus on abilities, not disabilities,” he says. The Hammer Community Partner Award is given to members of the community who are dedicated to volunteerism, community service and philanthropy. Joe, who is the CEO of Coldwell Banker Burnet and the executive vice president for NRT Central Region, is also a Hammer board member. From driving residents to church services or baseball games, according to Joe, his family’s involvement with Hammer has been extremely rewarding and led to many lifelong friendships.
