Long Lake resident Carrie Miller has a love for paper so strong that about five years ago she started Eclectic Paper Designs to create unique gifts and art using her favorite material. Initially creating decoupage picture frames, Miller says her desire to create more upscale and environmentally friendly pieces led her to explore using glass three years ago. The result is a variety of trays, plates and paperweights, all made in an environmentally conscious way. Although Miller’s plates are designed to last forever, Miller says she recognizes that not everyone plans to keep the same plates for a lifetime, so they are made of recyclable materials. Even the felt on the bottom of the plates is made from recycled plastic bottles. Miller also buys everything as locally as she can get it. Her paper comes from Anchor Paper in Plymouth or Paper Source in Minneapolis, and her glass comes from a supplier in Pennsylvania instead of overseas. & To see Carrie Miller’s art, visit her Etsy site.
