Celebrate and Give Back

Torrance earned his forklift license with the support of Reach for Resources.

Reach for Resources is a Minnetonka-based nonprofit organization focused on providing support and services for individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Reach for Resources hosts several fundraising events throughout the year, including one this month: Reach “On Tap.” Marketing and communications manager Caren Hansen says this year’s event (open to all ages) will include a silent auction, food trucks, beverages and live music. The goal is to raise $20,000 toward employment services for Reach for Resources’ clients.

Hansen says the story of one community member, Torrance, highlights the need for the organization’s services. With their help, Torrance has been able to avoid homelessness, to find a better living situation, a driver’s license and a job. As part of his job, he needed to learn how to drive a forklift, and with the help of his Reach community living specialist, he successfully obtained that license. “Recently, Torrance surprised [us] with news that he had secured a second job, beaming with the announcement that he did it independently. These are the triumphs we at Reach for Resources hope for, for all those we have the privilege of working with,” Hansen says.
