Local artist and photographer Deb Zeller is no stranger to this Last Glance page of Lake Minnetonka Magazine; her photos have appeared here several times over the last few years. She took this snapshot, “Early Morning Walk,” last January, right after a big snowfall—and the photo earned first place in the Wildlife & Nature category of our 2016 Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest.
“When I woke up that morning, the world was a winter wonderland,” says Zeller. “I put on my warmest coat, boots, earmuffs, hat and took an extra pair of gloves.” Zeller walked for a couple of hours and shot over 300 photos that morning. “This is one of my favorites, because I paused to look back at where I had just been,” she says. “My footprints in the pristine snow gave the scene a whole different perspective.” Zeller used her Nikon D7000 camera, which she takes out when she wants to do some “serious photography,” she says. “I got a lot of great photos that day, but this one has a sense of solitude and being one with nature.” We agree—we feel transported to that snowy scene, too.
