On August 20, IndiaFest returns to the State Capitol grounds for the seventh celebration of traditional and contemporary Indian culture there; the event itself launched in 1973.
Visitors can sample Indian cuisine from area restaurants, shop for traditional clothing and accessories at the bazaar and enjoy performances from Katha Dance Theatre and Bollywood Dance Scene.
Activities from henna tattooing to yoga lessons will be offered throughout the day with a parade and flag-raising at 2:30 p.m. to mark Indian Independence Day, and music and dancing continuing into the night.
“Every state in India has its own food, language and culture,” says Hasim Khorakiwala, president of the India Association of Minnesota. “This is a chance to showcase them for the Minnesota community.”
