New Excelsior Store Offers Streetwear Fashion

The owners behind The Suburban bring sneakers and street-wise fashion to Excelsior.

Cindy Berset and her daughters Kelsey and Ashley are busy businesswomen. After opening their successful sports bar, The Suburban, in Excelsior, they dreamed of opening a shop that offered women’s streetwear and sneakers. As avid fashionistas, they wanted to share a great boutique shopping experience with others. Their new Excelsior shop, BUCK+FIR, opened in November. As Kelsey Berset says, “It’s a place for women to get really cool sneakers, including rare styles, new brands and retro throwback styles. It’s for modern women.”

The trio began hunting for the perfect location. “There’s more romantic shopping in Excelsior,” Berset adds. They found the perfect spot in the former Jackie’s storefront on Water Street. The high ceilings and exposed brick walls were the perfect match for BUCK+FIR’s edgy street style.

BUCK+FIR’s range of clothing, shoes and jewelry blends streetwear, casual wear and “athleisure” vibes. The shop carries brands like Saucony Originals and Brooks Heritage, as well as a line of handmade Minnetonka Moccasins, exclusive to BUCK+FIR. Other items include infinity scarves and knit hats from Wool and Whiskey, raw metal and crystal jewelry from While Odin Sleeps, cities-series sweaters and hats from Ebbets Field and more.

The store is largely focused on cool sneakers; the owners noticed a dearth of good options for women in the Twin Cities market. Berset says, “We would love to see this part of our store grow. There are many options for men, but not as many for women. Our store brings that for women.”
