Hair Care and Friendship

Salon owner honors her late friend with new business.

Salon Bellemar, which opened in October, offers a full range of high-quality services for men, women and children, including haircuts and color, Brazilian blowouts and facial waxing. “We custom-blend our hair colors,” says owner Rosemary Klein. “This creates a multi-tonal look, unique for each guest.”

When Klein first thought about opening a salon, she brainstormed ideas with her good friend, Amber Walker. The two women grew up together in Excelsior and attended Minnetonka-area schools. Both women paved similar paths in the salon industry, beginning as receptionists in hair salons and both attending the Scot Lewis beauty school at different times. When Walker passed away last summer, plans for the salon were put on pause. Family and friends encouraged Klein to open Salon Bellemar as a place where she can keep Walker’s memory alive.

Keeping Walker’s memory alive is important to Klein. The salon’s name is derived from the names of Walker’s daughter Isabelle, 8, and Klein’s daughter Marcie, 2. The look and décor of the salon is largely Walker’s vision, and shows that “her spirit is still here,” Klein says.

The stylists at Bellemar focus on great customer service. “We treat [clients] like guests,” says Klein. As an educator for Eufora hair products, Klein also emphasizes continuing education to stay on top of trends. “We look at trends and know how to translate them to who our guests are. We strive to stay cutting-edge.”
