Three Sisters Eclectic Arts has made the move from Lowertown to Grand Avenue, but their mission remains the same: to support Minnesota artists. Linda Snyder, co-owner of the shop, says moving from the heart of the arts district was a “risky move,” but knew the retail opportunities were too good to pass up.
Selling everything from pottery to print art to potholders, the store is stocked by local talent. “It’s fun to share artists’ visions and interpretations of that with others,” says Snyder.
Three Sisters sells the work of about 100 artists. They also give back by selling artwork from Saint Paul Public Schools, Free Arts Minnesota, the
Epilepsy Foundation and other nonprofits supporting various causes.
Snyder and co-owner Valerie Anderson are both artists themselves. They opened the store with another friend, sparking the inspiration for the name Three Sisters, though none of them are biologically related. After the friend decided to pursue other interests, Snyder and Anderson decided to keep the name.
“There is a lot of symbolism to Three Sisters,” Snyder says. “Three main Native American agricultural crops, a famous Chekhov play, an awesome mountain range—we are in good company.”
