Small Business Saturday on Payne Avenue

Payne Avenue businesses offer deals for Small Business Saturday.

November 28 is a day dedicated to supporting and celebrating small businesses. After getting involved for the first time last year, the Payne Avenue Business Association (PABA) is hoping to make Small Business Saturday even better this year.

“Our mission is to support existing and new businesses, while engaging them in civic activities,” says Anne DeJoy, treasurer of the board of directors at PABA. “That’s what Small Business Saturday is all about.”

DeJoy says that last year about 25 businesses got involved, offering sales and promotions to customers all along Payne Avenue. DeJoy says there were deals ranging from shoe discounts at Anderson Shoes to an extended happy hour at Ward 6.

“We had a lot of fun with it and we raised a lot of awareness for our businesses,” DeJoy says. “Payne Avenue is really becoming a destination for foodies and it’s really a gem that some people still need to come and discover.”

This year, DeJoy says they are hoping to add Arcade Street to the mix, an area that has been associated with PABA since the 1960s. The Payne Avenue Business Association has been supporting local businesses with volunteer support since 1922
