Excelsior’s Girls Night Out Celebrates 10 years

Excelsior Girls Night Out celebrates 10 years
Local residents, business owners and fans from up to an hour away stop into downtown Excelsior for the weekly Girls Night Out.

Every summery Thursday night, starting June 4, downtown Excelsior comes alive. Girls of all ages gather for themed nights of celebration—complete with local deals and live music. Anyone who’s ever been knows that Girls Night Out in Excelsior is an institution. And this year, they’re celebrating their 10th anniversary.

Nights like that don’t just happen. They take a lot of dedicated planning—and that’s where the committee comes in. Connie Frederick, co-founder of Girls Night Out, also runs local business Ooh La La. “The first year it caught on so fast, it was overwhelming,” recalls Frederick. “It’s really brought the whole community together.”

Of course, Excelsior residents aren’t the only ones who enjoy Girls Night Out: Frederick notes that grandmothers, daughters and granddaughters have come from as far as an hour away just to celebrate, Excelsior-style. That’s definitely great for business.

This summer, the annual fashion show will be June 25, and more events will follow it this year, including a Taste of Excelsior and a music festival.

“I think one of my favorite things about Girls Night Out,” says Natalie Hagemo, Excelsior resident and GNO promoter, “is that here—right here in our community—is a night where you can bond with friends, have a great time but also support local business and do good for the community while you’re having a cocktail. I’m all over that!”
