I just wrote a comic strip, a couple of them actually, that were missing the most important part. The people. Any good story needs a protagonist, but in this green screen comic strip the protagonists are conspicuously absent.
This comic lives in a photo booth, projected on a blue screen one panel at a time. At the Art Crawl, coming up this weekend, visitors will step in and be the characters, giving life to the stories and going home with 4x6s to stick on the fridge—their own interactive art adventure.
In one comic strip they’ll sneak past a dragon and save a robot and puppies trapped in a tower. In another strip they’ll time travel through St Paul, starting with a day of protesting on the capitol steps and ending in a hovercanoe on the Mississippi in a Jetsons-era future.
Other options for visitors include postcard-like layouts of iconic Minnesota destinations like Spoonbridge and Cherry, Split Rock Lighthouse, Paul and Babe, Target Field, the Saint Paul Capitol, and (of course!) the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota.
A three-panel comic with two sets of photos is $15. We’ll be in the Union Depot building Friday April 24 from 6 – 10 pm, Saturday from 9 am – 10 pm, and Sunday from 9 am – 5 pm. You can find us on Facebook at Zoom Foto Booths MSP.
