After spending time photographing the farmers’ market in Excelsior on a cloudy Thursday in June, Michele Damrow and two photographer friends took a stroll down Water Street to the Port of Excelsior.
While out on the docks, Damrow looked down to see a colorful moment in the water that she felt she had to capture. Luckily for her, her Canon Rebel was readily available.
“The shot of the dock was not planned, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity when I saw the unique design in the water,” says Damrow about her photo. Lighting is a major element in all of Damrow’s photography, and the right lighting is a large part of what she likes about this particular photo.
Damrow’s interest in photography was sparked just more than a year ago, when her husband gave her the camera used to take this shot, and her pursuit has only grown since then. Damrow sees her hobby as a way to maintain an active lifestyle and continue to explore new places.
“It stimulates my mind and allows me to meet some extraordinarily talented people, who have become great friends,” she says.
While she normally enjoys capturing animals, especially birds, Damrow says that her interests vary based on the season and her location.
Damrow encourages aspiring photographers to participate in picture-of-the-day challenges. “Picture-of-the-day challenges provide me with a fun reason to use my camera on a daily basis and have, without a doubt, improved my photography skills,” she says.
