“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens” comes to mind when thinking of The Sound of Music, with its famous storyline and recognizable lyrics. Taking on a well-known classic can be daunting (remember December’s live NBC-plus-Carrie-Underwood event?), but Good Works Community Theater’s director Autumn Toussaint believes she is up to the challenge. She cites the musical as her favorite. “It’s such a timeless story of love and faith. I think that goes hand in hand with the community theater being within the church,” she says.
This show marks Good Works’ 10th production. Both veterans of musical theater and new performers are invited to participate. Each year, the performers partner with a charity to give back. The Dose of Music organization, a non-profit that performs music for those in need, is on hand this year to raise funds. “Their values are right up our alley, bringing music to those who may not otherwise have it,” Toussaint says.—KB
